This session, co-hosted by Ameren and First Quartile Consulting, was part 2 of an ongoing discussion Navigating Billing Challenges in the AMI Era. Participants explored strategies to manage exceptions, improve automation, and address regulatory variability across different states. Discussions included insights on leveraging bots, refining exception handling processes, and overcoming resource constraints tied to legacy systems.
Participants noted how exception rates and intervention needs vary significantly based on regulatory requirements and system capabilities. Examples were shared from organizations successfully deploying bots to automate manual processes, reducing workloads while maintaining compliance. The conversation also highlighted how AMI deployments and system enhancements have supported exception reduction and operational improvements. Regulatory differences between states—such as stricter rules in some Midwest areas compared to others—added further complexity to these efforts.
